Modern Approach to a Plaster Cornice
Use a built-up rigid-foam backer and a benchtop jig to repair or reproduce historic plaster moldings.
There was a time when plaster moldings were commonplace, and plasterers had the skills and the tools to create these beautiful details right in place. Today they are less commonly installed from the start, but remodelers do often face the task of repairing and replicating these traditional details. Here’s an approach that allows you to do it on a bench, with a few helpful jigs and a foam backer that requires only two coats of plaster and results in a relatively lightweight molding to install.
