Tips & Techniques

Sheathing Walls Solo

Make sheathing walls a breeze — even by yourself.

Issue 88
Edited and illustrated by Charles Miller

For those loners who put up their own sheathing, here is a method that makes it simple for one person to control a 4×8 sheet of plywood or OSB. The key is to put up the framed walls before the top plates are doubled.

As shown in the drawing, make up a couple of short 2x blocks and clamp them to the top edge of the sheathing. Make sure the blocks are flush with the edge. Now, using the blocks as hooks, hang the sheathing on the top of the wall and nail it home. The blocks will ensure that the sheathing ends up flush with the finished height of the top plate.

Come on man? None of you have ever been on a framing crew have you? Should be on better homes and gardens. I have seen maybe 3,4 good tips on here, the rest is for people that have no idea wtf they are doing. Everybody bitching about the shitty sketched pics? What about the stupid jack ass fucking tips they put on here?

    1. S_curvy | Aug 13, 2019 01:35am | #2

Well duh, Russ, talk about stoopid jack-ass comments, you’ve clearly answered your own question: No, not everyone has been on a framing crew, and even fewer have been on your potty-mouthed crew.

What’s left? The mag will put out tips for folks to use or ignore, and sometimes other readers will add their improvements.

Now is the moment when you wash your mouth out with soap and come back with something useful to share and to actually show in the form of a drawing or photo(s).

It's always the insecure who have to put others down to feel better about themselves. If you know everything already Russt79, you don't need to be reading the tips. You're exactly the type I'd never hire to work for my company. Some tips are amateurish, some are professional. Get something out of it or don't, but try and refrain from belittling others.
