May 28, 2024 • This week, Saint-Gobain announced that they have formed a collaborative relationship with TimberHP to distribute TimberHP’s wood fiber insulation products in North America through Saint-Gobain subsidiary, CertainTeed Inc. This partnership also grants CertainTeed exclusive distribution rights in Canada.

Who is TimberHP?

TimberHP is a startup company based in Maine that was spearheaded by Matthew O’Malia and Dr. Joshua Henry. O’Malia is an acclaimed architect known for his high-performance, affordable designs, while Henry is a materials chemist focused on energy conservation and renewable energy. Their company produces sustainable, nature-based insulation from wood fiber using residual wood chips and hydroelectric power. Saint-Gobain’s press release notes that “when fully launched, the offering will include loose fill, batt, and rigid board insulation products.”

Who is Saint-Gobain?

Driven by their motto, “Making the World a Better Home,” Saint-Gobain is a global leader in light and sustainable construction. They provide materials and services for both the construction and industrial sectors. The company focuses on integrated solutions for building renovations, light construction, and reducing carbon emissions.

Who is CertainTeed?

CertainTeed is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, “one of the world’s largest and oldest building products companies.” They offer a comprehensive range of interior and exterior products that help builders make “high-performance, energy-efficient places to live, work and play.” They have more than 6,900 employees and over 60 manufacturing facilities throughout Canada and the United States.

Why this Collaboration Matters

According to a statement from Julie Bonamy, Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Gobain Canada, “this exclusive partnership with TimberHP enhances the sustainable solutions we are bringing to our stakeholders throughout Canada.” Joshua Henry, Chief Executive Officer of TimberHP, notes “It is a huge vote of confidence in our technology and our team at TimberHP to partner with a brand as innovative and impactful as CertainTeed. It is essential that we mold the future of construction to be exceptionally easy, effective, energy-efficient and sustainable, and we look forward to addressing those industry needs together.”
