Cut Drywall in a Pinch
When there are only a few sheets to cut, this common grinding tool will get the job done.
While loading up tools to work on a small bathroom remodeling project, I remembered that my brother had borrowed my rotary drywall cutout tool. The project included hanging a couple sheets of drywall, but there were only three electric boxes to cut out, so it wasn’t worth driving an extra 30 minutes to retrieve the tool. I figured I’d go old-school and cut out the box holes with a drywall stab saw until I saw my Dremel grinder tool on a nearby shelf. While the Dremel is smaller and less powerful than the cutout tool, its chuck accepts the same 1/8-in. shank bits, so I brought it along. I found that as long as I didn’t push the Dremel too hard when zipping out the drywall around an electrical box, it worked just fine.
