Whether you’re hauling concrete, moving tools back and forth from the trailer to the worksite, or tackling weekend chores around the house, a sturdy wheelbarrow is an indispensable tool. After inflicting irreparable damage to the pneumatic tire on my old wheelbarrow, it was time for me to buy a new one.
In the last 2000 years, wheelbarrow technology has changed very little, which must be a sign that the basic design is pretty solid. But what do you know—I found one that actually has a new feature. Pivot-All wheelbarrows have hand grips that—as the name suggests—pivot. This means that your hands and wrists stay in a more natural position in relation to what’s going on with the handles.
This pivot-handle wheelbarrow makes heavy loads feel much more stable on steep slopes and over rough terrain. And I no longer have to completely readjust my hold when I dump the load, which is when most disasters happen. Another bonus is that when I’m maneuvering through narrow spaces, these unique grips protect my fingers like a Viking shield boss.
Pivot-All’s Standard Wheelbarrow is made of 0.8mm-thick steel and costs $70 plus shipping. I bought the Heavy Duty version, which is made of 1mm steel and has additional support braces, for $100.
