All-Terrain Scaffolding

This lightweight scaffolding adjusts to uneven terrain, offering stability and portability for various job sites.

By Randy Williams Issue 329 - Feb/Mar 2025

Early in my carpentry career, I partnered with a contractor who owned a set of scaffolds called Broncos. After he retired, I thought it would be nice to have a set of my own. It took me more than a decade to get around to it, but I recently purchased a pair of Broncos for myself. The overall platform height on the Broncos ranges from 3 ft. to 5 ft., and a set of two can support 600 lb.

Each scaffold weighs 16 lb. and can be folded flat for compact storage. But what sets Broncos apart from other scaffolding systems is the unique, adjustable, three-leg configuration, with each of the three legs having adjustment increments of 1½ in., which make the Broncos perfectly suited to support planks on uneven and hard-to-access terrain.

My one complaint is that the narrow feet will sink down into loose, noncompacted soil. As a solution, we place scrap boards under each leg to provide more surface area, but I wish there were a wide-foot option. Broncos are manufactured by ReechCraft Access Solutions out of Fargo, N.D., and are available directly from the manufacturer at reechcraft.com or from select vendors. I purchased mine from Acme Tools for $270 each.

— Randy Williams, home energy auditor and contractor in Grand Rapids, Minn.

$270 each? Each pair or for only one of the two needed?
